What do your clients wear for treatment?

It is suggested that men wear loose fitting shorts and women wear a sports bra (preferrably back opening) and loose fitting shorts or a bikini bathing suit. These are left on during the treatment. Although this is ideal for treatment, it is important that you the client are comfortable, so you may wear whatever makes you most at ease.

What should I expect during my first treatment?

On your initial visit, you will be required to fill out an intake form that includes a health history. A detailed postural assessment is done using bony landmarks and soft tissue presentation. This allows the therapist to see how the body as a whole rests in gravity. You will be asked to refrain from using any body oils or lotions on the day of your treatment. Use of these causes the therapist to slide over the fascia rather than being able to maintain contact with a barrier and wait for a release. Oils are not used during MFR treatment.

How will I feel after a Myofascial Release treatment?

You may or may not have an increase in symptoms over the next couple of days following treatment. Some clients report that they felt much like they feel after having a massage, followed by noticeable improvement. Everyone is unique in their healing and may experience different reactions to MFR. Myofascial Release is gentle, never injurious, but it can have a profound effect on the body.

How often will I need to have an MFR treatment?

Although there is no hard fast rule here, and it depends sometimes on how long the client has been experiencing problems, (ie. weeks, months, years), I would suggest that new clients book once per week for a six week period. My goal is to have clients self treating following their sessions. I suggest clients continue book a monthly session for maintenance. If you have booked 6 sessions and find by session three, for example, that MFR has not helped you in any way, you are under no obligation to keep the pre-booked appointments. Just call the office and let us know so that we may book others into that time slot.
